Siegel & Shuster Society

The Siegel & Shuster Society honors the legacy of Superman's creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, by celebrating their contributions to comic history and promoting Cleveland as a cultural hub through events, education, and community engagement.

Tickets for the Siegel &amp; Shuster, the first of our annual luncheons, celebrating the anniversary of the publication of Action Comics #1, where Superman first appeared. Created here in Cleveland in 1934 and printed as Action Comics #1, by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, two teens from the Glenville neighborhood, Superman&mdash;&ldquo;the champion of the oppressed&rdquo;&mdash;has grown into a worldwide phenomenon. Last year, Cleveland celebrated its hometown hero when the movie Superman, directed by James Gunn, put the city on the big screen. The Siegel &amp; Shuster Society also unveiled Siegel &amp; Shuster Plaza, with statues of the Man of Steel. It has become a new tourist destination honoring the creators. We&rsquo;ll celebrate the work of two of Cleveland&rsquo;s greatest sons with a live interview with Bill Garvey, President of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission, who will share behind-the-scenes stories about bringing Superman to Cleveland and discuss the city&rsquo;s growing role as a hub for Hollywood. The interview will be moderated by Siegel &amp; Shuster Society board member Valentino Zullo, Assistant Professor of English and Co-Director of the Rust Belt Humanities Lab at Ursuline College, and will include a Q&amp;A. If you&rsquo;re a Cleveland fan or a Superman fan, you should be there. All attendees will receive a buffet lunch, hear behind-the-scenes stories from the making of Superman, and take home a special, signed and numbered, collectable event poster available only to attendees.
