Sons And Daughters Of The United States Middle Passage

Sons and Daughters of the United States Middle Passage honors the legacy of enslaved ancestors through education, commemoration, and community engagement, fostering awareness of their impact on American history and culture.

The Sons and Daughters of the United States Middle Passage (SDUSMP) is proud to announce its 10th Annual Conference, taking place virtually on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 9:30 AM. This milestone gathering will bring together descendants, researchers, educators, and community members from wherever they are under the theme America 500K: Honoring the 500,000 Enslaved at the Dawn of the American Revolution. This year, SDUSMP is excited to introduce a new approach to the conference experience. Rather than two days of programming, the conference will be condensed into one powerful day of commemoration and celebration. The morning will open with a keynote address delivered by Sharece Blakney, historian at the Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum, who will explore the profound and lasting impact of American slavery on our society today, followed by a Q&A session. Following a short break, the program will continue with the presentation of the 2026 Phillis Wheatley Literary Awards, celebrating writers and storytellers who illuminate the written word in honoring the memories of our ancestors, followed by the Service Awards, recognizing individuals whose dedication and commitment to the community exemplify the organization's mission. The day will close with closing comments. Additional presentations focused on the theme America 500K: Honoring the 500,000 Enslaved at the Dawn of the American Revolution, along with genealogical and historical topics, will be pre-recorded and available exclusively to ticket holders on the SDUSMP website on the day of the conference. Attendees will still have the opportunity to engage with presenters by leaving comments and sharing their thoughts on the videos.
