The Carter G. Woodson Memorial Foundation promotes education and cultural awareness by providing scholarships and aspiring to establish a Black History and Civil Rights Museum in Huntington, WV, honoring the legacy of African American history.

Fryson, Esq.&nbsp; Fryson is the Senior Pastor of the New First Baptist Church of Kanawha City in Charleston, WV. He is an attorney and diversity professional and was the founding Vice President of the West Virginia University Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. He has practiced law for over 20 years in a variety of legal and advocacy settings. Fryson received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from West Virginia State University and was awarded the Doctor of Jurisprudence from West Virginia University. In 2001, he served a term as the National Vice-President for the legendary Rev. Dr. Leon Sullivan&#39;s OIC of America establishing a national office in Washington DC. In addition, he has been involved with the NAACP, the Job Corps Centers and assisted with the establishment of West Virginia Multi-Fest the largest diversity gathering in the state.&nbsp; Reserved tickets are $40 donation per person, with 8-seat corporate table reservations available for $400. Additional donations are welcome! Funds raised will help the Carter G. Woodson Memorial Foundation provide academic scholarships, and to realize its vision of a Black History and Civil Rights History Museum in Huntington&rsquo;s Fairfield community, through restoration of the Memphis Tennessee Garrison home. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Introducing our Keynote Speaker: Angela P. Dodson Angela P. Dodson is the editor of the anthology, &ldquo;We Refuse to Be Silent: Women&rsquo;s Voices on Justice for Black Men,&rdquo; Broadleaf Books, April 2024. She is also the author of &ldquo;Remember the Ladies: Celebrating Those Who Fought for Freedom at the Ballot Box,&rdquo; Center Street, May 2017; paperback March 2019. She wrote the introduction to the &ldquo;100th Anniversary Edition &mdash; Jailed for Freedom: A First-Person Account of the Militant Fight for Woman Suffrage,&rdquo; March 2020, Black Dog and Leventhal. She wrote a book, &ldquo;We&#39;ve Been Here Before: How Rebellion and Activism Have Always Sustained America,&rdquo; with her husband, Michael Days, before he passed in October 2025. Broadleaf Books is set to release it in June 2026. She is currently collaborating with another writer on a forthcoming book about race in America. Dodson is a former senior editor and former Style editor for the New York Times. She previously worked at the Washington Star, the Louisville Courier Journal, the Rochester Times Union, the Huntington Advertiser, and the Gannett News Service, Washington Bureau. She is the former executive editor of Black Issues Book Review and a former editor for DIVERSE: Issues in Higher Education. She was also the host of an award-winning, radio program, &ldquo;Black Catholics, Yes!&rdquo; on WIMG Trenton, NJ. She received the Trailblazer award from the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists in 2018. She is CEO of Editorsoncall LLC. A native of Beckley, West Virginia, and a graduate of East Bank High School, she earned a bachelor&rsquo;s degree in journalism at Marshall University and a master&rsquo;s degree in journalism and public affairs from the American University. Along with her brother, William A. Dodson Jr., and multiple cousins who attended Marshall, she helped establish the Dodson, Dotson, and Hairston scholarship for underprivileged students from southern West Virginia through the Marshall Foundation.
