Red Bird Nest for Book Arts and Print fosters creativity through hands-on workshops in letterpress printing and book arts. They empower individuals to explore traditional printing techniques, preserving the art of printmaking for future generations.

Come learn Gyotaku, the Japanese art of fish printing, in this hands-on workshop where you&rsquo;ll work directly from our replica fish to create detailed prints on paper, guided step by step. No experience necessary. *Kid friendly event!*

Gyotaku Fish Printing Workshop

Explore cyanotype on fabric in a hands-on workshop that centers process, play, and shared discovery. Learn how light, chemistry, and everyday objects come together to create deep blue prints on cloth. These prints can be used for clothing, patches, quilts, book cloth, or even hung as finished artworks! Taught by Caroline Roberts,&nbsp; Caroline is an experimental photographer who specializes in alternative and historical processes.

Cyanotype on Fabric Workshop

Join us for a hands-on Paste Paper Workshop&nbsp;where you&rsquo;ll learn simple techniques to create richly patterned papers using paint, paste, and tools! You will leave the workshop with the knowledge to create beautiful patterned paper and a handmade journal, covered with your paper! Additional suggestions will be shared on how to create with the papers. &nbsp; This workshop supports Red Bird Nest&rsquo;s mission to keep traditional bookmaking skills alive through shared practice, learning, and community.

Paste Paper Workshop

Eraser Chop &ndash; Relief Workshop invites you to carve, ink, and print your own small relief designs. Learn simple, hands-on techniques using erasers and basic tools, no prior experience needed. Taught by Chris Fitzgerald, you&rsquo;ll explore how this playful process connects to traditional printmaking and book arts. Leave with your own prints, new skills, and a deeper appreciation for the craft we&#39;re working to keep alive!

Eraser Chop - Relief Workshop

Calling all baristas, oat milk fans, and really anyone interested in accessible matrices! Tetrapak is a cheap, accessible material typically made to package liquids such as juice, milk, broth, and more. Using boxes of oat milk (Thanks, Bohemeo&#39;s!), we will use the broken down packaging material to create beautiful etching matrices and beautiful prints! In this workshop, we will scratch, scrape, and tear into our tetrapak plates, creating effects similar to traditional copper-plate etching. This workshop is ideal for anyone interested in art, drawing, printmaking, or cheap crafts! Led by Jordan Bolduc. Materials provided. No experience is needed&mdash;just curiosity and a willingness to experiment.

Before Red Bird Nest existed, the Annual Pull began as a way to help sustain the studio. Today, Red Bird Nest gives Red Bird Press a way to grow that mission and make these art forms more accessible to our community. As we celebrate two years of Red Bird Press, we&#39;re asking our community to help us pull together for another year of making, learning, and creating. Donate what you can to RSVP! If you&#39;re not in a position to contribute financially, we still want you there. Come celebrate with us. The Annual Pull: Two Years of Red Bird Press

Join us to explore Secret Belgian Binding, a distinctive book structure that opens flat and invites creative covers. In this hands-on workshop, you&rsquo;ll create your own 6&quot; x 9&quot; blank journal. &nbsp;You will learn a lacing technique to join the covers and spine. Once created you will stitch blank signatures to finish the book! Taught by Janet Reynolds, you&rsquo;ll practice careful measuring, piercing, and sewing while connecting with others who care about keeping book arts vibrant in a digital age.

Secret Belgian Binding Workshop

Explore tunnel books during Bird Week with a hands-on workshop that guides you from folded structure to finished piece. You&rsquo;ll experiment with sequence, depth, and simple print and drawing techniques to build a layered, sculptural book. All materials included, beginner friendly, suitable for ages 16+ Led by Janet Reynolds

Bird Week - Tunnel Book Workshop

Join us for an introduction to letterpress printing at Red Bird Press. Participants will learn the basics of hand-setting type, operating a proofing press, and printing their own small edition of keepsakes to take home. No prior experience is required. Perfect for curious beginners, artists, writers, and anyone interested in learning one of the oldest printing methods still practiced today!&nbsp;

Little Letterpress Workshop

Learn some basic bookbinding skills in this 3-hr workshop. Students will create a hard-cover book with pages of watercolor paper (140 lb Arches cold press). It is an accordion fold construction, so the book opens wide and the pages unfold to lay flat, perfect for sketching or watercolor. No prior experience needed.Taught by Amanda Stevenson

Accordion Sketch Book Workshop

Join our 2-day Relief Workshop! Sept 29 and Sept 30 from 6-9pm Participants will learn the basics of designing, carving, inking, and printing their own relief blocks while exploring the tools, materials, and techniques of the medium. Each student will leave with an edition of 5 prints and their carved block, which can be printed again at home or in the studio later! No previous printmaking experience is required, all materials included. Taught by Liz Gates

Settle in for a screening of &ldquo;Kiki&rsquo;s Delivery Service&rdquo; projected onto the wall, and bring a craft (optional) to work on while doing so! We will also have some refreshments available, including popcorn!
