Slow down, listen closely, and let jazz and blues guide your breath. This guided meditation weaves music with mindful reflection, inviting you to notice rhythm, color, and feeling the way an artist does. As part of the public programming for PrintLab: Material Futures and "WE" THE PEOPLE, Spirits Up will lead a guided meditation inspired works from the exhibitions such as Birth of the Blues by Willie Cole and Blues Band by Paul Keene. This immersive experience invites participants to engage with the exhibitions through mindfulness, music, and the enduring cultural legacy of jazz and blues. Spirits Up is a Philadelphia-based wellness initiative that creates culturally grounded yoga, meditation, and mindfulness experiences for Black and Brown communities. By blending wellness practices with Black history, jazz, blues, and community dialogue, Spirits Up offers spaces for reflection, healing, and collective connection. Hosted by Brandywine Workshop and Archives, this session supports our work connecting people through art; across cultures and generations. Whether you’re an artist, educator, student, or curious visitor, you’re welcome to pause, reset, and reconnect with your own creative voice.

Join us at Brandywine Workshop and Archives for Keith Morrison: A Peripatetic's Confrontations 🎨. This exhibition explores Morrison’s journey across places, histories, and cultures through vivid prints spanning his four visits to Brandywine. During his first visit and onward, he ventured further into figurative art, moving away from the abstract style he was known for. The name, A Peripatetic’s Confrontations, is a nod to Morrison’s upbringing, life, and an exploration into African culture that has travelled throughout the world and embedded itself within multiple histories and identities. As Brandywine reflects on Keith Morrison’s life, it is with great honor that we display these works and express our gratitude for his continuous visits to the Workshop and above all, for being a friend to Brandywine. This exhibition is a tribute to his life and accomplishments. Register below to reserve your spot. Your presence supports BWA’s mission to create, document, and preserve a culturally diverse body of contemporary art—and to keep these stories accessible to our community 🖼️. Keith Morrison: A Peripatetic's Confrontations

Brandywine Workshop & Archives is proud to present two landmark exhibitions that reflect our commitment to artistic innovation, cultural exchange, and community storytelling. Supported by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, PrintLab: Material Futures is the culmination of Brandywine's PrintLab Artist Residency, an initiative born from a grant awarded by The Pew Charitable Trusts. The residency invited eight artists to push their printmaking practices in new directions through scale, sound, animation, installation, and digital media. The intention was never simply to make the work larger, but to challenge each artist to discover something genuinely new within themselves and within the medium of printmaking. The resulting exhibition showcases ambitious works by Albert Chong, El Anatsui, Willie Cole, Delita Martin, Kakyoung Lee, Jocelyn Akwaba Matignon, Didier William, and LaVett Ballard, each reflecting the transformative possibilities of collaboration, experimentation, and artistic inquiry. Presented alongside PrintLab, "WE" THE PEOPLE commemorates the 250th anniversary of the United States by exploring the many communities whose labor, traditions, creativity, and resilience helped shape Philadelphia. Organized as a visual timeline around historical moments and cultural arrivals rather than geography, the exhibition traces Indigenous histories and pre-1776 land stewardship; nineteenth-century Black Philadelphia and self-determined communities; industrialization and European immigration; the Great Migration and the movement of Black communities northward between 1916 and 1970; African Diaspora connections and cultural exchange; Puerto Rican, Caribbean, and Latin American arrivals; Asian diasporas, entrepreneurship, and cultural exchange; and Brandywine Workshop & Archives' own role as a center for international artistic exchange. Its structure reflects a central premise: Philadelphia was not built by one community or one moment, but through centuries of movement, exchange, and collective contribution that continue to shape the city today. Together, these exhibitions invite visitors to reflect on the power of art as a vehicle for innovation, memory, identity, and connection. We are honored to welcome you into these spaces and grateful to celebrate this moment alongside the artists, communities, partners, and supporters who make this work possible.

Join Brandywine Workshop and Archives Artist in Residence, Sok Song and Master Printer Alexis Nutini for an evening exploring the layered processes behind Song's recent print series created during his residency. The program begins with a gallery discussion of the prints, followed by a live demonstration of multi-layer woodblock printing by Nutini, revealing how successive layers of color, camouflage, and registration build complex compositions. Participants will then learn Song's graphite transfer process, an experimental pressure-printing technique that creates detailed images without ink. Through pressure, texture, and layering, participants will create graphite impressions while exploring how everyday textiles can become archives of identity, memory, and lived experience.Participants are encouraged to bring their own soft materials to print, such as garments, fabric, lace, or other textiles that can safely pass through an etching press. Please do not bring hard materials such as wood, metal, or other rigid objects. A selection of materials will also be provided for participants to experiment with during the workshop.
