Charleston WV SHRM empowers HR professionals through ethical practices, shared experiences, and continuous development. We foster a collaborative community to address workplace challenges and enhance the HR profession in our region.

The future of work is being shaped by skills, not just degrees and job titles. Join us on October 14, 2026, as we welcome Isaac Agbeshie-Noye, SHRM Foundation Director of Programs, who will join us virtually to explore how organizations can adopt a skills-first approach to talent management and workforce development. Drawing from the SHRM Foundation's Skills-First at Work initiative, this session will examine how employers can broaden talent pipelines, improve hiring outcomes, and create greater opportunities for workers by focusing on demonstrated skills and capabilities. More about the Speaker Isaac Agbeshie-Noye joined the SHRM Foundation in May 2025 as Program Director for the Widening Pathways to Work portfolio, bringing nearly 20 years of expertise in higher education, workforce development, and philanthropy. In his previous role at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Isaac spearheaded the development of a foundational portfolio for external partnerships, which included oversight of initiatives to expand access to career pathways in the biomedical sciences. He has held key programmatic and change management roles at organizations such as the Education Design Lab, George Mason University, and American University, leading initiatives designed to enhance student success and facilitate seamless transitions into the workforce. His approach to advancing change centers on building sustainable partnerships, driving innovation, and aligning resources to achieve mission-critical outcomes. Isaac holds a doctorate in Higher Education Administration from George Washington University. SHRM and HRCI recertification credits pending approval.

The Leader's Toolkit: Essential Skills for Building Trust, Coaching Performance, and Solving Problems

Burnout. Low morale. High turnover and low employee engagement levels. Your company culture has taken a hit post-pandemic and despite your best intentions it's increasingly difficult to bounce back even now in 2026. Human Resources interventions can only do so much. Leadership and management are feeling the same way, so they're not much help either... In fact, they may inadvertently be contributing to the issues. In an effort to protect or spare employees, your managers could actually be depriving them of opportunities that would improve morale and boost retention! In this workshop, we'll talk about the "a ha's" that managers need in order to truly reduce burnout instead of accidentally causing it. Learning objectives --

Specific ways that managers "protect" employees and inadvertently contribute to burnout

Symptoms that employees are being coddled

Remedies and alternatives to shift from coddling to caring

What HR can do to support managers and employees in ways that help (not hurt!) the organization
