Family Councils Ontario works with long-term care home residents' families, Family Councils, and home staff across Ontario to enable them to cultivate positive relationships, build effective Family Councils, and improve the long-term care experience.

THIS IS AN IN-PERSON EVENT Connecting Through Care: Belonging &amp; Community in Action (Sudbury)Join us in Sudbury at Pioneer Manor for a special in-person gathering in celebration of Family Council Week 2026. This event brings together the FCO team and long-term care sector professionals for a day of connection, learning, and shared purpose. Together, we will explore practical ways to strengthen the sector while fostering a deeper sense of belonging for residents, families, and care partners&mdash;through meaningful dialogue, collaboration, and a dedicated town hall designed to spark insight and forward-thinking conversations. What to Expect:&nbsp; Featured Session:&nbsp;The Relational Approach: A New Way to Care Together Presented by Deborah Bakti, speaker, educator, and relational approach strategist with over two decades of experience in seniors&rsquo; care. Drawing from The Relational Approach&trade; and her upcoming book, Deborah blends insight, storytelling, and practical tools to help participants better understand what gets in the way of trust&mdash;and what helps build it. Through guided reflection and an interactive breakout session, participants will explore the narratives both sides carry and discover how curiosity can shift even the most challenging dynamics. Participants will also gain practical strategies for building and sustaining effective family councils, informed by recent survey results and collaboration across the sector from members of the FCO team. We are delighted to welcome the Honourable Mayor Lefebvre, who will deliver opening remarks and present a special proclamation recognizing June 10th as Family Council Day in Sudbury. The Executive Director of Pioneer Manor will also share a message on behalf of the organization. We are further honoured to have the Honourable France G&eacute;linas provide closing remarks. Connecting Through Care: Belonging & Community in Action (SUDBURY) 

Family Councils Ontario invites you to a day of learning, connection, and meaningful dialogue. Together, we&rsquo;ll explore ways to strengthen the long-term care sector and foster a deeper sense of belonging. Held in celebration of Family Council Week 2026, this event will bring together the FCO team, Family Council members, community partners, and sector experts. Hosted at Post Inn Village in Oakville on Thursday, June 4, the day will offer opportunities for shared learning and collaboration. What You&rsquo;ll Experience A featured session lead by Frauke (Anne) Stewart of Holding Space Halton will introduce a compassionate, community-based approach to supporting individuals and families experiencing grief or navigating life-limiting illness. As a private social service practice in Halton Region, Ontario, Holding Space Halton provides supportive counselling, end-of-life guidance, and emotional, practical, and educational support for those facing loss, serious illness, or the dying process. Rooted in creating a safe, non-judgmental space, the session will explore how people are supported to share concerns, process grief, and navigate difficult life transitions with dignity and care.
