Park Takeover

Park Takeover is a Non-profit org. dedicated to creating free access to educational programming, community collaboration and preservation of our culture. Our Families are the foundation. We create safe spaces for Black, Indigenous, People of Culture.

Park Takeover Summer Museum Days This summer, we are inviting our families to intentionally expose our children to the beauty, creativity, and knowledge housed right here in San Diego’s museums. Museums expand imagination. They strengthen critical thinking. They introduce our children to science, art, history, and innovation in ways that textbooks cannot. When children see themselves in spaces of learning and culture, it reinforces confidence, curiosity, and possibility. Regular museum visits nurture observation skills, patience, creativity, and a deeper connection to the world around them. We ask that families register for all three Museum Day dates to ensure you receive your Balboa Explorer Pass, which guarantees free access. When you attend all three scheduled visits, you automatically meet the annual requirement to renew your pass — allowing your family free museum access for the entire year. During our Summer Museum Days, we will gather at the Balboa Park Fountain in front of the Fleet Science Center and walk together to the museum we are visiting that day. Specific museums will be announced before summer begins. Each gathering includes fresh fruit and water for our children, and most importantly, intentional time spent learning and growing together in community. We look forward to walking, learning, and exploring alongside you.

Join us on October 31, 2026 at 12 PM at the WorldBeat Cultural Center for the annual Os Malandros de Mestre Touro Batizado — a celebration of Capoeira, culture, community, and the next generation. We are honored to welcome living legend Mestre Touro, alongside other Mestres traveling all the way from Brazil to San Diego to share their knowledge, history, music, movement, and traditions with our community. The Batizado is a special Capoeira ceremony where students are recognized for their growth, receive their cords, and celebrate another chapter in their journey. We are especially proud to honor our own Mestre Preto Velho — the first African American in the United States to become a Capoeira Mestre — whose work continues to create space for African American youth in San Diego to connect with Capoeira and its African roots. Come experience the roda, live music, cultural vendors, community, and the powerful traditions of Capoeira. Guests will also have opportunities to donate and directly support the continued work of Os Malandros de Mestre Touro and the youth we serve. 📍 WorldBeat Cultural Center — San Diego📅 October 31, 2026⏰ 12 PM Come celebrate our students, honor our Mestres, and experience a tradition that connects generations across Brazil, Africa, and the USA. 🇧🇷🌍
