Our dear friend, SSTCi Board Member &amp; Silver Spring&#39;s favorite Chef and small business owner Beth Yohannes, aka Chef Beth, is leaving us. She and her husband are returning to Texas to be near family. Come help us bid her farewell. Beth has left Lemon Slice Cafe in good hands with a new owner, so you can still enjoy your favorite dishes from there. We will gather with Beth at the Koiner Farm Saturday, August 22 6PM-8PM. So you can have a chance to see Beth once more before she leaves for Dallas. We will have a big cake and other refreshments. Due to circumstances beyond our control, this event had to be postponed. We are set for Wednesday, July 29th at 6pm.&nbsp; Join us for a special performance as we present The Journey to Freedom Through Story &amp; Song with Linda Harris &amp; David Cole. The duo will share the inspiring story of Harriet Tubman the legendary conductor of the Underground Railroad who led 300+ people to freedom. David Cole&#39;s skill as an ace guitarist with soulful vocals and personality completes this duo with Linda Harris whose expressive style and grace delivers the pulse and cadence in the style of the ancestors.&nbsp; David is a music educator and performer, and Linda is a vocalist and musician, as well as director of programs and events at the <a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.harriettubmanmuseumcenter.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">Harriet Tubman Museum and Education Center.</a> Both perform locally as well as internationally.&nbsp; This amazing duo brings the story of Harriet Tubman to life. Under the direction of Carol Takafuji, the group meets weekly for good music, food, and fun. The `Ukulele Hui has performed at many functions, including lu&lsquo;au, church and school events, retirement homes, and multicultural festivals, to name a few. They are all ambassadors of the HSS of Washington, D.C. in promoting and perpetuating the culture of Hawai&lsquo;i in song and dance, spreading the Aloha Spirit wherever they go.

Expect soulful sets, shared stories, and a relaxed space to connect with friends and fellow music lovers.Stormi and the Blue Skies came together 3 years ago from meeting at Archie&rsquo;s Barbershop. The group is composed of Lead singer and on guitar Stormi Weaver, Reggie Johnson harmonica and vocals, Tim Nolte bass and guitar, Doc Altman violin and vocals and Willie Leebel guitar and vocals. The group plays an eclectic mix of blues, rock and roll and R and B. Stormi channels Memphis Minnie and other past blues women in her heartfelt vocals. In addition to Stormi: Willie, Doc and Reggie share vocal responsibilities on various songs. Look to beroused and ready to dance throughout SABS performance. The DC Mudd Bros are a quartet rooted in the rich traditions of blues and blues inspired music. The 2nd Annual Legion of Laughs - Veterans Comedy Show

Join SSTCi for Montgomery Montage: A 250-Year Tapestry of Time, People, and Place with historian Ralph Buglass Saturday, May 16th at 2pm at the Silver Spring B&amp;O Railroad Station. FREE &amp; Everyone Welcome! To state the obvious, our county has undergone tremendous change over the course of its history &mdash; once overwhelmingly rural and agricultural, then increasingly suburban and now itself highly urbanized in numerous spots. This presentation sketches major themes of the county&rsquo;s evolution and development, lavishly illustrated by an array of vintage photos, maps and other images. ABOUT RALPH BUGLASSRalph Buglass, a Montgomery County native and avid history buff, has taught at lifelong learning institutes associated with Johns Hopkins and American Universities and Montgomery College. He speaks frequently to community groups, businesses, and other organizations as well as at national conferences. In 2020, with Peerless Rockville, he co-authored Images of America: Rockville, a pictorial history of the city&rsquo;s 250 years. A retired communications professional, he is a graduate of Winston Churchill High School and has a B.A. in American history from Cornell and an M.A. in journalism from American University. This event is presented in collaboration with Montgomery History.&nbsp; MONTGOMERY HISTORY&mdash;the county&rsquo;s historical society&mdash;has been preserving and telling the county&#39;s diverse history since its founding in 1944. It offers weekly Zoom talks, community lectures through its Speakers Bureau, and an annual conference, in addition to welcoming researchers to its library on its Rockville campus and a variety of other services. It will soon move into Rockville&#39;s sole surviving Art Deco building.

Silver Spring Town Center Inc is pleased to present the new &quot;Summer Music Series at the Bio Wall&quot; at United Therapeutics. This monthly program will feature a global mix of roots and rhythms. We are kicking off the series with Daryl Davis &amp; Friends performing Blues, R&amp;B, Pop and, of course, Boogie Woogie! Daryl will be joined on stage by an amazing line-up including Guy Bouchie on guitar, Johnny Castle on bass and El Torro Gamble on drums! This program is made possible with generous support from United Therapeutics. Daryl Davis&nbsp;is an international recording artist, published author, actor and leader of&nbsp;THE DARYL DAVIS BAND. Born in the Electric Blues Capital of the world, Chicago Illinois,&nbsp;DARYL&nbsp;absorbed the influences of the South from musicians who traveled North from the Mississippi Delta, Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Missouri to this Blues Mecca. Today, he resides in Maryland, just a few minutes from Washington, DC. DARYL DAVIS&nbsp;earned his Bachelor of Music Degree from Howard University in Washington, DC where he was a member of their world famous and renowned Jazz Vocal Ensemble. In addition to being a vocalist, guitarist, and composer,&nbsp;DARYL&nbsp;is a keyboardist extraordinaire. Upon graduation,&nbsp;DARYL&nbsp;went on to work with such artists as&nbsp;Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley&rsquo;s Jordanaires,&nbsp;Jerry Lee Lewis,&nbsp;The Platters, The Drifters,&nbsp;The Coasters, Bo Diddley, Percy Sledge,&nbsp;and&nbsp;Sam Moore&nbsp;(of&nbsp;Sam &amp; Dave), to name a few. Both Pinetop Perkins and Johnnie Johnson, considered to be the greatest Blues &amp; Boogie Woogie and Blues and Rock&rsquo;n&rsquo;Roll pianists respectively, both have claimed DARYL as their godson. They have both praised his ability to master with authenticity, a style that was popular 20 years before he was born, progressing through the styles of many pioneers including Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino and beyond. It was this ability that landed DARYL in the piano slot for The Legendary Blues Band (which was the Muddy Waters band) and the piano slot for Chuck Berry. Both positions were once held by Perkins and Johnson. As a recording artist, DARYL DAVIS was the featured pianist on the Cephas &amp; Wiggins Grammy-nominated album Flip, Flop &amp; Fly. As a composer, in addition to his own hits, I&rsquo;m a Boogie Man and Broadminded and many other originals, DARYL scored the music to the children&rsquo;s story, Abigail. His own CDs are titled, American Roots, Alternate Routes and Greatest Hits. After having been with so many others, helping them to do their thing in nightclubs, concert halls, festivals, recordings, films, radio &amp; television, from the United States to Europe, don&rsquo;t miss seeing DARYL DAVIS with his own group doing his own thing!

Enjoy an elegant selection of Jazz-Age inspired hors d&#39;oeuvres, decadent desserts, and handcrafted vintage cocktails.
