This will be a two-part event. First, there will be a presentation on the apps, gadgets and tech resources that can help keep you safe. This includes everything from tracking apps (that aren't Google Stalk) to apps that turn your phone into a panic button and more. We'll also go over credible content creators and other resources that can help you learn to be prepared for a variety of situations that women disproportionately face. After the tech presentation, that can keep you safe + a women's self defense Krav Maga class by Phoenix Krav Maga and Fitness. You will learn a number of specific self-defense moves specifically designed to keep women safe when faced with aggressive and often larger opponents. The class will be led by Sifu Matt Numrich, who has specialized in self defense specifically for decades. About Sifu Matt Numrich: Matt Numrich began studying martial arts (under Guru Dan Inosanto) in Bruce Lees’s art of Jeet Kune Do. His work on JKD has been published in a number of international martial arts publications and he was a media resource post-9/11 who also trained the Federal Air Marshal’s Chicago O’Hare office in 2003. In addition to decades of training a wide swath of military, police, and security personnel, Matt has developed self-defense classes specifically young adults, children with learning disabilities (ADD/ADHD), and family members seeking proactive home/environment safety. His interest in Krav Maga began when Matt saw a need for untrained civilians to have access to a martial art method that was accessible to them and, after a lifetime of both physical and theoretical study, he determined Krav Maga is best suited for this purpose. Matt earned his black belt and is a certified Krav Maga instructor. Email:
