Laurel Arts is excited to take our classes to the next level with the help of Laurel Hill State Park!&nbsp; The abundance of beautiful sunset views at Laurel Hill State Park becomes your inspiration in this watercolor painting experience. This all-levels art class, for beginners to professionals, will begin with a short sunset/moonrise walk with a park ranger. Participants will then be given pointers by Amanda Haymans of Unwind Art to create a beautiful watercolor sunset or scenic view of their own. MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR:Amanda Haymans, originally from Richmond, Virginia, serves as the Art and Gallery Director at Nemacolin Resort. She holds a BFA in Art, is a CZT, and brings a deep passion for arts education, having taught in museums, K&ndash;12 classrooms, and early‑childhood programs. In her role, Amanda curates multiple gallery spaces, leads art tours and lectures, oversees an artist‑in‑residence program, and coordinates large‑scale art events, private parties, and group experiences. She also enjoys bringing art to her local community and creating accessible, inspiring experiences for audiences of all ages. Now based in Maryland, Amanda enjoys reading, crafting, traveling, and spending time with her adventurous son.

Summer Adult Tap Classes

Laurel Arts is excited to take our classes to the next level with the help of Laurel Hill State Park!&nbsp; What to Expect: During this outdoor workshop, we will begin by painting 2-3 birdhouses and a base in the colors of your choice. &nbsp;We will then take a leisurely walk guided by a park ranger to see the bluebird boxes while learning more about them. &nbsp;After our walk, we will return to our dried birdhouses to add some personal touches. Students will have a selection of flowers, ribbons, and assorted decor. Use your creativity to make it your own unique creation!

Laurel Arts at Laurel Hill State Park - Bluebird Walk & Birdhouse Crafting

Laurel Arts is excited to take our classes to the next level with the help of Laurel Hill State Park!&nbsp; What to Expect: Join me for a delightfully creative mixed media art lesson capturing the fun of a butterfly walk at Laurel Hill State Park! We&#39;ll begin with a leisurely walk guided by a park ranger to find butterflies in their natural habitat. Following our walk, we&#39;ll begin by painting an abstract and expressive watercolor background for our piece. This is your chance to paint whatever you like and run wild with color, shape, and texture! Once our backdrop is complete and dry, you can follow along with my guided demonstration to how to draw a butterfly that we see on our walk. Together, we&#39;ll sketch the butterfly, and then draw it in ink over your beautifully painted background. At the end of the lesson, you will have your very own mixed media art piece that represents your unique take on a memorable summer day spotting butterflies in a scenic state park! PLEIN AIR WATERCOLOR PAINTINGThe beautiful outdoor views become your inspiration in this 90-minute watercolor painting experience. An art instructor will guide you through creating your own wonderful Plein Air watercolor. This all-levels art class, for beginners to professionals, will explore the seasons of our area as you create your own landscape imagery. This is an outdoor class, so please be prepared to wear sun protection. In the event of inclement weather, the class will be moved to an indoor location.

Have you always wanted to learn to knit but didn&rsquo;t know where to begin? Instructor Amy Miller of Finnegan Knits in Finzel, MD will get you started! Braided rugs and other homemade rugs are ultimate recycling projects. Going back to prehistory, mankind has always recycled. These rugs, when cared for properly, become heirlooms. Learn all the techniques and problem solving skills needed to create a quality rug. Since this is a craft, the skills will be developed in each student according to their needs. The &quot;Art&quot; part is in the selection of color combinations.The first lesson is 1 hour or so to go over all the proper materials, needles, thread, thimble, scissors and a lesson on color theory to help you personalize your project. No need to bring anything unless you want to make sure it is correct. Handouts are given with each night&#39;s lessons. This is a very important and can not be missed. Needle Felting Fun: Wooly Creatures

Instructor Pam Frola is joining us for another one of her ever popular sourdough starter classes. Learn how to care for a sourdough starter and bake the easiest loaf of bread (Sourdough Boule). In this class, Pam will be going over how to care for your starter and the importance of routine feedings. Sourdough "Starters" for Starters

Celebrate Mother&#39;s Day in May and spend some time making memories with Mom! Instructor Cathi Neuhof will provide supplies and guide students in another one of her creative painting classes. Mom & Me Painting Workshop

A Saturday afternoon in Spring is the perfect time to join instructor Kathy Donnelly and learn her specialty art. You may have seen her and her pieces at Mountain Craft Days each year. Kathy will walk students through creating their own unique watercolor vase. She will then show participants how to add tiny dried flowers to the vase while sharing tips on how to press and preserve them in vibrant colors.&nbsp;

Botanical Watercolor - the Art of Pressed Flowers

Spring Parasol Painting on Slate

Join instructor Marsha Schmuck for an afternoon of creating Spring themed bath essentials. We will mix up some bath salts, create a shower steamer, a sugar scrub and a shaped goat&rsquo;s milk soap. Spring Bath Essentials Workshop

Pysanky is a traditional craft originally done in Ukraine and Poland. Join instructor, Alicia Shussett, as she helps you to create one of these beautiful eggs. Students will learn to add patterns using the traditional method involving wax and various colors of dye. This class is just in time to decorate or to make a gift for someone special for Easter. The instructor will add a special protectant to the eggs after the class. They will be ready for pick up on Tuesday, March 31.&nbsp;The class takes place at 601 Georgian Place, Somerset on Saturday, March 28 at 2pm to 4pm. Pysanky Egg Workshop

Instructor Melanie Sarver will walk students through how to make this adorable charcuterie board just in time for Easter entertaining. The board is both festive and delicious and something your guests will be impressed you made. Students will use a variety of cheeses, meats, fruits, and crackers. Participants will also learn to make meat roses.

Easter Gnome Bunny Painting with Acrylics

Amanda Haymans of Unwind Art in Accident, MD will be joining us at Laurel Arts to share another one of her many talents. She will be teaching Watercolor for Beginners. Necklace Pendant Painting Class

Join Instructor Marsha Schmuck and her daughter Isabelle to learn more about the growing fad of Junk Journaling. ZENTANGLE&reg; 101The Zentangle&trade; Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. Almost anyone can use it to create beautiful images. It increases focus and creativity, provides artistic satisfaction along with anincreased sense of personal well-being. Presented by a Certified Zentangle&trade; Teacher (CZT)&trade;, Amanda Haymans, this 90-minute class will provide a beginner with a background in the history of Zentangle&trade;, introduce them to the basic steps of the method, and expose them to associated vocabulary and tools used. Students will be immersed in creating actual Zentangle&trade; tiles and will leave with a clear understanding that, &ldquo;Anything is possible one stroke at a time.&rdquo;&trade; Amanda will not only teach students the basics of Zentangle but will help them to create a piece perfect for fall decorating. Amanda Haymans of Unwind Art will be teaching this Fall Watercolor for Beginners Workshop. In this 90-minute guided class, you will learn a multitude of techniques to begin your own watercolor journey. If you have always wanted to give it a try, this is a great introduction to the art. Students will learn color mixing, watercolor application, salt, alcohol, crayon resist, and erasing. Participants will also learn gradients. Get ready for a unique print making experience! &quot;Hi! I&rsquo;m Casey, a local artist passionate about creating handmade art. I&rsquo;m a former biologist turned artist and the owner of Samaran Selkie, my small art business dedicated to exploring the beauty of nature through creative expression. My work is inspired by my deep love for the natural world, and I enjoy sharing that passion through painting, printmaking, clay creations, and jewelry making. I have showcased my artwork at several local galleries including Laurel Arts, Bottle Works, and had my own solo art show at Composition Art and Wine. I&rsquo;m excited to welcome you to this workshop and help you create your own printable design!&rdquo; What to Expect: Join me for a fun and creative workshop where you&#39;ll design and carve your very own linoleum block! I&rsquo;ll provide the block, carving tools, and everything necessary to print your hand carved design. You can follow along with my guided demonstration or create your own unique artwork.
