The village of Kpandebu needs clean water. Today, families collect water from swamps and depend on rainwater for drinking, cooking, washing, and other daily needs. The lack of a reliable clean water source exposes the community to waterborne diseases including typhoid, dysentery, and schistosomiasis. First Things Foundation is working with Francis Nabieu to build a water well for Kpandebu. Francis has already partnered with First Things Foundation to complete four water wells. We know Francis. We know how he works. Those wells began the same way this one has: with a local person who knows his community, knows the need, and is ready to see the project through. This well will give the people of Kpandebu a dependable source of clean water close to home. It will reduce their reliance on swamp water and rainwater, reduce the risk of waterborne disease, and make an ordinary necessity of life safer and more reliable. The project begins in Kpandebu. Francis knows the place and the people. First Things helps move the resources needed to get the well built. Your gift goes toward making that well possible.

Clean Water for Kpandebu | Sierra Leone

Francis Sahr Nabieu has spent the last five years working with First Things Foundation to bring clean water to communities in Sierra Leone. Together, Francis and FTF have completed four water wells. Now Francis is building something of his own. Francis is starting a small soap business near his home. He plans to produce affordable scented palm-oil soap and sell it directly to retailers in villages where transportation makes basic goods harder to access. Francis has already put substantial money and labor into the project himself. He has invested roughly $1,500 in constructing the building where the soap will be made. His cousin Faya will manage daily production, with Francis and members of his family helping as needed. Francis will oversee the business and transport finished soap by motorcycle to retailers in surrounding villages. The business gives Francis a way to support his family and become less dependent on outside funding. As the first male child in a family of 17 children, Francis carries responsibility for several younger siblings and relatives who live with him. This project also comes after years of Francis helping other communities before asking First Things for support for himself. His first project with FTF was a water well for the village where he grew up. He then helped complete wells for three additional villages. Funds raised through this campaign will help Francis equip the soap business, purchase the materials needed to begin production and get the business operating. Francis has already built the place. Now we’re helping him put it to work.

Keipi Restaurant is the Home of the American Supra and First Things Foundation’s home base in Greenville. Since opening in 2022, the restaurant has grown beyond its original startup setup. More guests are coming through the doors. Community Supra fills the table. The staff is stronger. The kitchen is led by an experienced chef. First Things Foundation is raising $200,000 for the next stage of the Keipi buildout. $30,000 — Strengthen Operations Open the adjacent bay, move the dish pit, add a dishwasher, install a tankless water heater, and upgrade staff gear so the team has cleaner flow, faster resets, stronger service, and less strain during service. $150,000 — Expand Capacity Build out the expanded kitchen and dining area with a commercial hood system, broiler, expanded line, gas infrastructure, electrical work, grease-trap work, appliances, furnishings, fixtures, and the finish-out needed to serve more guests well. $20,000 — Build the Tamada Lounge Build a hospitality room connected to Keipi around one hosted Supra table, with space for post-Supra conversation, artists and speakers, Tamada gatherings, interviews and media work, supporter conversations, and working headquarters needs for First Things and American Supra.A stronger restaurant means a stronger home base. This buildout gives Keipi better systems, stronger staff conditions, more room for guests, and a more durable foundation for the American Supra.

In the mountain village of Ude in southern Georgia, Irma and her family are building Folk House-Kera. The house is being built as a place where guests can enter the life of the village through Georgian hospitality, mountain excursions, traditional feasts, local crafts and the ordinary rhythms of life in Ude. Proceeds from the project also help support village children learning art, agriculture and folklore. This fall, the family has a practical list of work to finish. Boria is a farmer in Ude, Georgia, who supports his family by growing potatoes and corn on 1.5 hectares of land. He has studied agribusiness and has spent years working the land with a small hand-guided tractor that is better suited to smaller plots. Because of its limitations, he still has to hire others with larger equipment to help work his fields. First Things Foundation is raising approximately $18,000 to help Boria purchase a Shifeng 504E tractor, compatible plough, and tiller. With the new equipment, Boria will be able to work his own fields with less intensive labor and reduce what he spends hiring outside help each autumn. He also plans to hire himself and the tractor out to other farmers around Ude, creating another source of income for his family. That additional income can be reinvested into more farmland, increased corn production, and the family’s poultry operation. The tractor will give Boria better equipment for the work he is already doing and create new earning opportunities within the farming community around Ude.
