About this foundation

Otto Schoitz Foundation was established from the 2016 transfer of local hospital ownership and an initial endowment to continue Otto A. Schoitz’s legacy of local philanthropy. The Foundation’s mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of the Cedar Valley community by funding grants to nonprofit partners. It awards grants twice per year (Spring and Fall), partners with local organizations, and emphasizes evidence of impact, equity, and community benefit. The Foundation is co-located with other local funders in downtown Waterloo and tracks investments across social drivers of health.
