Ideal Applicant

Employees or dependents of member firms seeking scholarships, or accredited colleges/vocational schools and industry training providers working with the Western Building Material Association.

Good Fit

  • Applicant is an employee or dependent of an employee of a WBMA member firm and meets the stated employment-duration eligibility.
  • Request is for a scholarship to attend an accredited two‑ or four‑year college or vocational program.
  • Proposal supports industry-specific training or safety/education closely tied to the building materials sector.
  • Applicant or intermediary is located in Washington or the Pacific Northwest region.

Geography

Moderate

The giving footprint is regionally focused: grants spanned three states in the latest year but nearly nine tenths of dollars stayed in Washington.

Recipient Variety

Moderate

The foundation funds a small set of recipients each year (five to six grants annually), combining one large recurring grant to the association with multiple scholarships to different individuals and institutions.

New Applicants

Broad

Direct evidence of new entrants exists (four of six recipients in 2024 were new) and a formal scholarship application process with a published deadline and mail-in instructions is available, although non‑scholarship grants appear more relationship-driven.
