About this program

Supports research that links sociological and linguistic research to social action in the U.S., prioritizing projects that address racism, xenophobia, classism, gender bias, human rights violations, and language/literacy issues with a clear research design and concrete public or community impact.

Eligibility
  • Must be tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) and classified as "not a private foundation" under section 509(a).
  • No grants directly to individuals.
  • No awards for dissertation research, honoraria, or political purposes.
  • No operating support or capital grants.
  • Geographic focus limited to the United States.
  • Government/municipal agencies are not eligible.
  • Must not represent the work of a lone academic without an ongoing partnership with a community organization.
  • Must demonstrate capacity or intent to carry out bona fide research (past track record or credentialed researcher partner).
