Because grants are invite-only and recipients are long-standing, organizations should pursue relationship-building routes: cultivate introductions via current grantees, intermediary funders, or trustees; demonstrate strong program alignment with the foundation’s typical service areas and capacity to manage mid-sized grants; unsolicited proposals or cold outreach are unlikely to succeed given the foundation’s preselection practice.
