Prospective applicants should pursue introductions through local intermediaries and prior grantees (the foundation routinely funds community foundations, schools, health and arts groups) and demonstrate strong local impact and the capacity to manage larger, sometimes capital grants. Because the foundation accepts only preselected applicants and has no public submission route, attempts to contact without a referral are unlikely to succeed; cultivating board or intermediary connections in the Barry County/MI network is the most practical route.
