Frequently asked questions
Is RallyUp free for Australian not-for-profits?
Yes, on its Free plan. RallyUp charges no platform fee on that plan and says you will never pay one "even if no donors tip". It is funded by an optional donor tip at checkout, and on Raffles and Sweepstakes donors are offered discounted bonus entries which are treated as tips. Card processing fees are a separate matter and still apply: in RallyUp’s words, "All transactions incur payment processing fees, regardless of pricing plan", at 1.9% to 2.9% plus $0.30, and only Flex lets you pass them to donors. Zeffy works the same way on the platform fee and covers the processing as well, so your organisation receives the full amount.
What does RallyUp charge if we do not want to ask donors for a tip?
You move to the Flex plan, where a platform fee is deducted from the funds you raise and is set per Component: 2.9% on Ticketing & Registration and Storefront, 4.9% on Auctions, Crowdfunding, Fund-a-Need, Paddle Raise+ and A-Thons, and 6.9% on Raffles and Sweepstakes. Livestreaming and Donation Pages carry no fee. If you run two Components in one Campaign, each is charged at its own rate. With Zeffy there is no equivalent trade-off: the platform is free whether or not donors contribute.
Does RallyUp cap its auction fee?
Yes. RallyUp caps the platform fee on any auction item at $100 no matter how high the winning bid, and gives the example of a car sold for $55,000 still costing $100. That is a genuinely good term for high-value lots. Zeffy charges nothing on auction items at any value.
Who pays the card processing fees on RallyUp?
The organisation does, and they go to the processor rather than to RallyUp. Their words: "RallyUp does not receive any portion of the payment processing fees, and we do not add any charges for payment processing." They quote Stripe or PayPal at 1.9% to 2.9% plus $0.30 depending on your own arrangement, and on Flex you can pass those fees to donors. Zeffy covers processing itself, so your organisation receives the full donation.
Does RallyUp have contracts or a subscription?
No. RallyUp publishes no contracts, subscriptions, up-front fees, setup fees, consulting fees or minimum fees. One paid extra exists: a custom domain for a one-time $99. Your plan does lock once a Campaign goes live, though you can use different plans for different Campaigns.
Can we run memberships on RallyUp?
Memberships do not appear anywhere in RallyUp's published Fundraising Portfolio, which lists Raffles, Online Auctions, Sweepstakes, Ticketing & Registration, Crowdfunding, Peer-to-Peer, A-Thons, Storefront and Livestreaming as Core, and Live Auctions, Silent Auctions, Fund-a-Need, Paddle Raise+, Event Balances, Automated Checkout and Live Display as Flex-only. Is RallyUp available in Australia?
Yes. RallyUp lists Australia among 33 supported countries and AUD among more than 135 currencies. Eligible organisations are registered charities, NGOs, schools, religious organisations and community groups, and personal-cause fundraising is excluded. Zeffy is available to registered Australian not-for-profits with an ABN and ACNC registration.
What does Zeffy not do that RallyUp does?
RallyUp runs Raffles and Sweepstakes, and Zeffy does not offer raffles to Australian organisations. It also has A-Thons, Livestreaming, Live Display and Done-for-you services where one of its fundraising experts plans, builds, reviews or finishes a campaign for you.
